Submit-O-Rama: NAME Challenge

The Submit-O-Rama "NAME GAME" challenge is simple enough: submit to journals beginning with each letter of your name. So, for example, someone named BETH may submit to Bloodstone Review, Ecotone, Thin Air Magazine, and H.O.W. Journal. Make it more challenging by using your first and last name ... or even your first, middle, and last names! Bless you to bits if you have multiple names and a hyphenated last name and go for this challenge.

If this sounds like the challenge for you, take it on! Leave a comment below to let me, and anyone else who joins you, know that this is the challenge you've taken. And don't forget to snag the badge below for your website, blog, or Facebook page to let everyone know you've taken the challenge! Good luck!

  1. Hi Khara! Thank you for the invite :-) I'm going to submit once a week and more if I can.

  2. Good to see you here, Sara. I'm joining you in this challenge with my own rules.

Since I write more than poetry, I'll sub more than poetry. Thanks again, Khara, for the kick in the behind. I needed something else to put on my plate.

  4. This is the one for me. I will submit once a week in October. This will be a great challenge for me because I don't submit. Thanks for the support system!

  6. I'm in for once a week, too, Khara. I sent stories out to three places in the last couple of days and already heard back from one--a form rejection. So discouraging. But I need to get back on the submission horse! Part of my goal will be to finish up another story I've been working on and get it out there, too. Thanks for the shove. I needed it!

    1. Good luck, Gerry! I hope this will be an encouraging challenge---even with rejections (I myself anticipate getting tons before an acceptance, but that's okay), hopefully it's encouraging in that it reminds us all that we all have it in us to get our work out there! :)

  7. My rules are going to be to do all of the other rules at once, I think. ;) So one for every letter of the alphabet, plus an extra H, R, and E, plus two more, I guess? (Although I may skip Q, since I just got a piece in a Q journal, and don't know if I can find another one in time. :P)

    1. Ah, Joseph, great minds ... Ha-ha, I've been picking out three presses per letter in my name, then looking to fill in rest of the alphabet once. If my math is correct that's about 70 submissions ... I'm not *entirely* sure I really want to take that on ... but if I can't overdo my own challenge I don't know what's what!

  8. Oh you guys! Where do you get your energy? And could you bottle some and send it on up here to Canada? Sheesh ... I'm going to make my own rules thanks and try for one submission a week and even that seems daunting BUT since I actually pulled that off most of September, perhaps it won't be un-doable (is that even a word?)Thanks for the idea Khara - a great one to be sure ...

  11. I've only just found this (via Joseph Harker) but as I've already made about 10 submissions in October, I'm going for the Make Your Own Rules challenge. I tend to "do" submissions en bloc on Sundays and write the rest of the time. What I will try and do is submit some of my longer stuff.

Sorry to hear about the hack :( but glad you're back (with a vengeance and a challenge!).

  14. Dang! I deleted my comment! I will do this challenge, submitting to one book blogger by Saturday at midnight, and then 2-3 book bloggers each week following. I'm just shining up my book before sending it out! I wonder if I should try to do something like advanced reader copies, but have it be post-release copies? (since it's already released) I'm kind of afraid to ask, because I don't think anyone would want to read it!

    1. Woohoo! Congrats on the book, Lara, and good luck with the challenge. From my own limited experience with book reviews: sites like NetGalley do post some books that have already been released, so there are definitely reviewers out there would who read it despite that! I say go for it! :D

  15. I finally wandered over here. I'm trying to beat what I did last May which is 16 Submissions, 75 pieces, 15 published pieces.

  16. I'm in for this one, Khara.

Last October I submitted once a week. This month I lost the first two weeks to vacation. So I just want to submit more-than-four.

    First one went today.

    Thanks, Khara!
