Featured Journal: Bloodstone Review
To get us started, I’m selfishly sharing a new venture brought to you by myself and two wonderful writing colleagues, Lauren Patridge and Erin Wahl: Bloodstone Review. One thing that links us as editors, and one of the focal points of Bloodstone Review, is a strong sense of place. As the BR website explains, “Blood represents place in our own bodies, our own personal spaces and how we are present in them. Stone represents the landscape around us, the world in which we live and interact.” Our interests and focal points in writing are as varied and diverse as there are minerals in the earth … which I think makes us the perfect place to test the waters for your work!
Bloodstone Review reads from May 1st to August 31st. We accept simultaneous submissions, but are not looking at previously published work. (We’ll get into details of what that means and how to work with the “previously published” monster, a little later in the challenge!) You can find us online at bloodstonereview.blogspot.com, and submit your work here. One word to the wise: Please take the time to read the submission guidelines! I won’t speak for my fellow editors, but nothing is a bigger turn off in reading for me than trying to read a piece that clearly didn’t “follow the rules.” Submission time is not just the time to throw your work out there … it’s time to take your work seriously. That means familiarizing yourself with the guidelines, and catering your work to the people you’re sending it to; part of that catering process means respecting their rules … So check yo’self before you wreck yo’self, folks!
Here are four more journals looking for your work right now!
34thParallel Magazine (Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Art): $6 submission fee (includes download of latest edition). Submit your work here: 34thparallel.net/submit-to-us.html
S/tick (Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry): focuses on work related to women. Submit your work here: s-tick.tumblr.com/post/23039868478/submit-t...
Anobium (Fiction, Nonfiction): They don’t want your poetry. And they don’t care about credentials. So there. Submit your work here: http://anobiumlit.com/submit/
The Rag (Art, Poetry, Short Fiction): You pay to submit online … but they also pay you if they publish you. So it’s a pretty fair trade off! Submit your work (currently seeking fiction submissions) here: https://raglitmag.submittable.com/submit
