the things that are made to be broken

there are things
that are made to be broken--
teacups, hearts, bones,
icicles dangling
carelessly from porch
swing wood slats,
records, lps, plates,
dreams hung out to dry
on clothespins.
wooden staffs, twigged
braids, strands--
can't break the broken things, can't untend what's already won.
